How To Fix a Sky HD Box That is Overheating Regularly

Can my Sky HD Box Overheat?

Yes it is possible for your Sky Box to overheat because its most likely going to be running all day. Inside there are electrical components similar to a computer that produce heat when your Sky box is powered on. If your Sky box is becoming very hot, eventhough its got built in overheating protection, its not a good idea to continue using it as you would be risking damaging it. There are many things you can do to help prevent your Sky box from overheating and creating more problems later on.

1) Ensure the area in which the Sky box is placed is free from any obstructions. Placing it closely against a wall or a cupboard stuffed with other electrical items is not going to help. You need to ensure there is enough room surrounding the box to allow sufficient heat to be removed easily.

2) Clean out the dust in the air vents. At the back of the box there are air ventilation holes which allow the fan inside to blow out all the hot air trapped inside. If this is clogged with dust and dirt, then its going to overheat. So get a can of compressed air from your local PC shop and clean out all the air vents you can see.

3) Add external cooling. You can connect your own 12 volt cooling fan separately using a mains adapter to help with additional cooling to keep the temperatures down. This is ideal if its really hot were you live, as the climate has an big impact on how warm your Sky digital box becomes.
