For a DVD player to read data from a disc the laser needs obtain data. Dust and dirt can cause problems for the laser getting the information. This can cause your DVD player to not read discs and won’t play. But first you need to distinguish between whether it is the laser or the disc that is dirty. Before you clean the laser lens, wipe down the surface of the disc using a soft cloth. This will remove any kind of finger prints on the disc and other dirt. Once you have cleaned the DVD, reinsert it back into the player and see if you still get loading problems. If the DVD player cannot still play discs due to not reading them, then you will need to clean the laser lens.
You can either get a laser lens cleaner disc or
you can clean it yourself manually. I prefer to clean it my way because the
laser cleaning disc might not always catch all the dust on the laser lens that
could be causing not reading disc problems.
1) Eject the disc from the DVD player and unplug
it from the mains.
2) Remove all the screws found at the bottom or the
sides that holds down the top cover in place.
3) Lift the cover off from the actual DVD
player.
4) The disc drive will be in the middle on most
players. There will be another smaller square plastic cover that goes on top of
it that holds the disc down so that it can spin. Remove the smaller screws from
the disc spinner cover and lift it off.
5) Once you have done that, you should be able to
see the laser lens it’s a little blue thing that looks like an eye. Get a small
cotton bud dab some rubbing alcohol onto it and gently wipe away the lens a few
times.
6) Once you have done that, get a vacuum cleaner
and clean the space inside the disc tray to suck up any dust. Now that you have
cleaned the laser and the insides of the disc tray, plug in your DVD player
like normal and test to see if it can now read DVDs. If this repair hasn't
worked, then the laser is most likely become faulty, most DVD players are not worth
repairing so its best to bin it and buy a new one from your local department
store.
