If you have not used your PSP in a while, there will most likely be dust and dirt under the screen. This is usually inside under the actual PSP screen faceplate that goes on top. This handheld console is prone to this because there are gaps around the front. You can attempt to remove the dust under the PSP screen without actually opening it up. Since doing that would actually void the warranty with Sony and its tricky to put back together. All you need to a can of compressed air to perform the clean.
1) Power off the console.
2) Place the console in direct sunlight under a window so you can see all the little dust and dirt particles.
3) Get your can of compressed air and attach the straw provided.
4) Aim the straw towards the gaps around the front faceplate and blast it all around.
5) Give the front of the screen a clean with a soft cloth to prevent it getting inside again. You could also fit a screen protector to prevent further scratches.
