A portable DVD player purely relies on the
battery pack that is connected into it. It works like how a laptop charges
using a separate mains charger. If your portable DVD player screen won’t turn
on, the first thing you need to check if its charging properly. If there is no
charge, then there will be no light coming on the portable DVD player when
plugged in. This immediately indicates that there is a problem with charging
it. I have come up with a quick fix guide to make your broken portable DVD
player work again.
1) If it’s a car charger, then the 12-volt cig
socket in the dash could not work due to a blown fuse. Plug something into the 12-volt
cig socket, either a small fan or mobile phone charger. If its getting power,
then you know your charger is working and the 12-volt socket has gone bad. If you
are having problems charging it at home, then try a different mains wall
socket.
2) If there is powering going into to the charger
but not into the portable DVD player, you can try reseat the battery pack.
Press the release button to pop it out, give the connectors a quick clean and
refit it back on. Sometimes it being loose slightly can cause your portable DVD
player to not charge up.
3) The charger could be faulty. If you have a
similar adapter with the same voltage and plug fitting plug it in. If it works
then you know that the charger is not working.
4) If you have tried all the above, then the
charging port could be dirty. Give it a quick clean with a cotton bud. It also
could be loose. Open the portable DVD player and go over the solder points for
the port. Try charging again.
If neither of the above work for fixing your
portable DVD player, then the battery pack might need replacing. You can get
these on EBAY.
