)Plan and design is important first before making a build by using Google sketch up free software. This is a really good software that you can use to make your sub woofers designs and ideas, using the shape tools. It gives you an idea of how your box will be looking when you built it all together.
)Get your cubic volume and dimensions right the first time.Double check to make sure its accurate, just to make sure there are no mistakes. You do not want to buy more mdf sheets that are the wrong cut outs, this will waste your time and your money!
)When you are building your own custom box,use silicon instead of wood glue.Silicon is more efficient than glue and seals air leaks better.Remember to never place your woofer in a box, when you just have applied fresh silicon,if you do it can cause serious damages to the spider.Wait for at least 24 hours and let it try and let the smell evaporate.
)If your thinking about building a dual sub box, then you need to brace your box.Basically what bracing is a piece of mdf in between the middle of your box.It supports your box from falling apart and any damage's that can happen to your box, from big bass vibration.
)Buy the right wood and thickness, most say usually 3/4 inches of mdf wood is fine.If your going to run more than 450 watts of rms pure power, then think about getting a thicker sheets of wood.Don't cut the pieces of wood your self,go to a wood cutting service they will do all the cutting for you.
)Get the right cables and gauge that matches how many watts you are going to run from your amplifier to your sub.Buying good cables are vital for performance and sound quality, from good leading brands like autoleads and monster cable.Make sure you have a nice, big and tidy room before you bring all the drills and other required tools.
