1)If your thinking about making a custom subwoofer enclosure box,then its better than buying a premade box on a shelf.This is because premade boxes are usually made of the cheap mdf wood that money can buy.You also do not know which frequency the box is tuned to So you could place you sub in a box,that has a different tuning or cubic volume that's not recommended for your woofer and you will not get the best sound quality out of box.So its ideal to build your own ,because you will get better sq if you design a box to the recommended manufactures specs for that particular sub.
2)Making your own bass box is cheaper that buying one that already made for you.Its not that hard to build,there are many videos that give you ideas,to making building easier.You also save money too,so with that extra cash, you could get better mdf wood that's thicker,as this give better bass,or buy better head unit.
3)With making your own subwoofer box,you can tune to what frequency you like.Like i said most premade boxes are just built without working out dimensions and area.if you build it correclty, you will get better sound quality and less distortion. 4)Another great benefit is,you can also make it any shape,style or any box type.You could either make it ported,sealed or bass pass.With making your own,you have more options of different types of boxes to create,each box has it good points and bad points.Making is not a big problem because there is a lot of free volume calculators on the web,that do all the work for you just search it in Google.Then buy the wood and tools and get ready to build your boomer!
