If your PlayStation 1 console is not reading discs, then you will need to clean the laser lens, which usually fixes this problem. Sometimes, the laser lens can become dirty and dusty and if it does, it will not read discs. To clean the clean the laser lens on a ps1 console, open the disc flap, by press the eject button. Once it is open, get a lint free ear bud and pour a little rubbing alcohol onto the ear bud. Now, gently clean the laser lens, once you have cleaned it, let the alcohol evaporate, by leaving the disc tray open for 2 minutes.

Once the cleaning alcohol has evaporated, insert a disc into the disc drive and close the disc flap and power on the ps1 console. Hopefully, the disc read error problem is fixed and the laser should be reading the disc perfectly. If the laser is still not reading discs, the laser will need replacing, as the laser is faulty.
