1)The game disc might have smudges or finger prints, if the disc has these substances on the shiny side of the disc, the laser cannot access the data from the disc, as the dirt prevents the laser to read data, from the disc. If your shiny side of the disc looks in dirty condition, using a soft lint free cloth, clean the disc and remember not to clean it in any sort of circular motion, as you will make faint scratches to appear on the disc. Once the disc is clean, insert the disc into the Gamecube and see if your console still freezes up. If it does, move on to solution 2.
2)It could the disc that is faulty and maybe it is the cause to this freezing problem to occur. So try a different disc, that is compatible with the Gamecube and insert it into the console. If your console doesn't freeze up this time, it shows that the disc is the cause to this problem. If your console still freezes up, it shows it's because of overheating.
