If you own a Sony PS4 and you only have one dualshock 3 controller for use with your PlayStation 3, you can connect the new type of controller directly to it. Sony has made the PlayStation 4 controller backwards compatible from the factory after the recent firmware update that is available to download on your console. This providing you the benefit of not having to get a separate controller for 2 player games.
Connecting Wired
1) Connect the USB charging cable to the console by connecting it to any of the available USB ports located on the front panel.
2) Connect the other end of the cable into the PS4 dualshock 4 controller.
3) Switch on your console. It will automatically establish a wired connection for you. This means that the gamepad is constantly charging making it perfect for fifa marathons.
Connecting Wireless.
1) Enter the 'Manage Bluetooth Devices Option' in the settings menu.
2) Enter 'Register New Device'.
3) While its picking up any devices nearby, hold down the share and PS buttons. You will notice that the light on the top starts flashing, this means you have done this correctly.
4) On your TV, the console will display that it has detected a wireless controller.
5) Press X to save the controller onto the settings and it will now be permanently paired up.
