A fuse is placed inline with the red power wire on the wiring plug on the back of a CB radio to protect the electronic circuitry inside from any known voltage surges. Instead of the shortage hitting the inside components the fuse is strong enough to protect it from going that far. If you notice every time you switch on or transmit on your CB radio and its keeps blowing fuses, it is far from being an operational unit. The main reason why this happens is because the current fuse fitted is most likely rated below the recommend amps fuse by the manufacturer. For example, if the inside fuse is 2 amps, but the CB radio draws a whopping 10 amps, then the fuse is going to blow out regardless of other circumstances. This is because there is too much pulling current from the rig itself.
1) Look online and look for the user manual of the manufacturer for your unit. Inside there usually on the back page in the PDF, there is a specifications chart that shows you the recommend fuse with the right amp rating to be used.
2) Once you have found that out, take a trip to your local electronics store and ask the correct type of rated glass fuse that is required.
3) Power off the CB radio and remove the red wire from the car battery or power supply for home use.
4) Open up the fuse holder and pop out the current glass fuse. Replace it with the new one and screw the plastic cover back on.
