If your lucky enough to own the first generation Sony PS2 fat console with the expansion bay at the back, you can install an optional internet network adapter. This will then allow your console to be connected online to play with your friends with certain games that support net play. Its fairly old now, so most game servers are going to be closed down due to the lack of demand. However there are some still open till this day! If you own a slimline this doesn't apply to you since it has a built in one.
How To Setup PlayStation 2 Network Adapter
1) Turn off your console by holding down the power button.
2) Look at the back next to the cooling fan. You will see a long rectangular shaped cover. Remove it by pushing it up with your finger nail.
3) Get the network adapter, attach the IDE hard disk drive and slot it into the back of the hole.
4) Connect an Ethernet cable from your router into the port of the network adapter kit.
5) Now that the hardware is setup up. Insert the network setup CD and follow the on screen instructions.
6) You might want to test the internet connection if it works. Click here to find out how to test your network adapter kit.
