6x9 speakers are usually fitted in the rear parcel shelf or in pre made enclosure boxes and 6x9 are really good for all round bass, mid and high frequency. They are usually wired to a stock car head unit by removing the deck from the dashboard and wiring the speakers wires to the 6x9's + and - terminals to the rear channel output. Most head units are not that powerful as a external car amplifier so its always best not to underpower the speakers so what you should do is use either a small 2 - 4 channel amps 50x4 rms watts like a small Alpine v12 amp and wire that up to boost there response and power to the 6x9 due to the fact that under powering is just as bad as over powering. But on thing to make clear they are not subwoofers, they do have a fairly large oval cone area but they still can not sound as deep and thump like a a sub itself. So people its not a subwoofer! Its just a 6x9 speaker!
Well this guy tried to make it like a subwoofer by making his own box and its gave some hard bass see in the video below:
There are many great brands such as: Infinty,Jbl,kenwood,Alpine,Pioneer,Fusion,Vibe,Jl Audio,Kicker,loudest.com and the least is going to be Sony xpold.Always go for good brands because cheap brands will give you poor sound quality and build quality for example the cone is usually made out of paper materiel.Halfords have a nice car audio range if you want to browse around and test how different 6x9 sound like before buying you should do that and also i suggest you read review as well to find out what do other think about different 6x9's as well to narrow down and help you make a choice on which brand is right for you. When fitting in the rear parcel shelf it can be a really a mess if you do not have the required skills to install them or cutting the hole with out a precut template can make a mess, destroy it and it could make it look tatty shelf so be careful. There are many guides available that show you how you can make your own precut template out of some left over mdf wood.
Also if you have got a real subwoofer in your tunk, then if your thinking about buying 6x9 inch speakers then forget about it the idea totally! This because the subwoofer will cancel the notes that the 6x9 produces so what is the point of buying them and wasting money? I suggest that you look into buying some component speakers for the front with separate tweeters or coaxial.Component is more expensive but your do get better sq.Coxial is cheaper but instead results in bad sound quality.Well that choice is left between the two so which do you think is best?
