You have two different types of cables to choose from to display video output to your television. Either a RGB scart / composite cable or a component cable. If your HD plasma television supports component connections, i would suggest you use it over RGB or composite. This because it providers far more superior graphics quality, the colors look more vibrant and the details look sharper. Once you have hooked up your PlayStation 2 console using a component cable, you will need to configure it in the system configuration. If you don't, your PS2 console will not be able to tell that you are using a component cable and will display a regular RGB signal. Which is why you probably can't see any difference that component is far more better.
1) Power on your PlayStation 2 console. Press the 'Eject' button to open the disc tray and remove the game disc. Then press the 'Power' button again to reset the console.
2) Your console will now load onto the 'Browser' screen. Now select the 'System Configuration' option and press 'X' to enter into it.
3) Keep go the different options until you see 'Component Video Out'. By default from the factory it will be set to 'RGB' mode. Change it to 'Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr' mode. This will configure your PS2 to display a component video signal to your TV.
