1) Check that the TV cable is pushed in all the way into the connector of the console and the volume on the TV is turned up. Also ensure that the scart lead or colored RCA's is plugged into the TV securely and the colors are matching the actual sockets. If any of these connections are not fitted in properly, the video signal might come through but it can result in no sound.
2) Try out a different AV or VGA cable. If the cable is bended frequently or looks in bad condition, the wires inside could be damaged and no longer soldered onto the connectors. Swapping the cables over will straight away tell you if the current cable is damaged or faulty in any kind of way.

3) Clean the AV socket found on the back of the console. Get a can of compressed air and blast out clean air onto the gold pins. If they are dirty they can sometimes not provide a proper good electrical contact when the cable is inserted in.
4) Open up the console and resolder the AV connector on the motherboard. Sometimes the existing soldering can become broken off if the cable is bended from the outside. Resoldering all the metal points will ensure that the connector has the best possible connection with the audio chip.
