What is Gain Control Setting On an Car Audio Amplifier?

On all car amplifiers, they have a gain that is a small potentiometer that acts as a variable resistor, that you can increase and decrease, using a screwdriver, this is to match the voltage with a car amplifier and car head unit, voltage which is provided by the car head unit RCA voltage, that is provided through the RCA cables into the car amp RCA inputs. The gain level has to match the car head unit and amps voltage, for optimal sound quality and performance. Too much voltage into the car amplifier can lead to sound distortion, a jagged curve on a frequency wave, which can be seen on a oscilloscope, which can cause poor sound quality and could cause damage to the voice coil in speakers or subwoofer, that you are driving on your car amplifier.
