You can install a modchip into your Xbox console to play homemade burned copies of games from your originals that you own. That way you can leave them in their cases and prevent them from getting used and scratched in the process. If you have purchased a original Xbox console recently and its already got a modchip installed by the previous owner, you can remove it if you prefer. The removal process will involve you to open up the console, getting inside access the chip and remove it from the main board. You have two options available, you can either desolder it or snip off the wires that connect to the modchip itself.
1) Unplug all cables from the console.
2) Place the Xbox upside down onto a table.
3) Under the four rubber feet tabs there are torx 20 screws and two more screws under the serial and warranty stickers.
4) Once unscrewed, flip the console the other way round and pull off the top cover.
5) You now need to remove the hard drive and DVD drives. You will require a torx 10 screwdriver to remove the hardware. Then you will need to unplug the relevant connector plugs.
6) Now that you have done that usually the mod chip will be seen fitted towards the left hand side.
7) Once you have found the mod chip decide on how you want to remove it. You can get a wire cutter and cut each little wire going to the chip to disable it or you can user a soldering iron to heat up the wires and remove them individually.
