How To Make Dreamcast Noisy Loud Fan Run Quieter

If you notice that the cooling fan inside your Dreamcast is making a loud buzzing or humming sound the fan motor may need lubricating. There also might be dust or dirt trapped around the area causing the fan to spin faster than it should to keep up with getting internal temperatures down. Its difficult to replace the current fan with a replacement because of its unique size and wiring layout. So to make your Dreamcast console run quieter i suggest the following.

1) Switch off the console from the mains and unplug all cables, including power cords and controllers.

2) Turn the console so that the bottom side is facing up. You will see four screws get a Philips head and remove them all.

3) Lift of the top part of the console.

4) You will see the cooling fan mounted on the right hand side.

5) Unscrew the fan from the plastic mount bracket. Get a vacuum cleaner and clean up the dust and dirt behind the air vents.

6) Also use a brush to clean off any remains of dust partials from the fans blades.

7) To make the fan run more quieter, peel of the sticker in the middle area and place three drops of lubricant oil directly into it. This will loosen up the bearings inside the motor and will make it run far more smoothly.
