The first generation PlayStation 2 console has an optional network adapter kit add on, which allows you to take your console online. Once this is installed into your PS2 console, you can hook it up onto the internet and play other gamers online. The slimline model has a integrated network adapter, so there is no need to purchase an additional kit. The network adapter fits into the rear of the fat style PS2, inside the 'Expansion Bay'. You can also insert a 3.5 inch IDE hard drive of your choice, so you can install games onto it and play them without having the game disc.
1) Look at the back of the PS2 console, you will see a power switch. Flick the switch into the '0' position. This will permanently turn it off, while your performing the upgrade.
2) You will see a plastic cover that says 'Expansion Bay' at the back of the console. Behind this cover, there is an empty slot, which the network adapter fits into. Use your finger nail to remove the Expansion Bay cover.
3) Remove the network adapter from its packaging. Line it up against the Expansion slot, gradually push it in until it stops going in further and locks in. Once fitted in, tighten both screws to secure the unit in place.
4) Connect an 'Ethernet' cable into the port found at the back of the network adapter. Then flick the power switch back into the 'l' on position. Then insert the 'Network Setup Disk' and setup the internet configuration.
