When the Sony PS2 came out, it was originally designed for use with all standard definition televisions. Either to use a scart or a rfu adapter kit to connect it directly. If you are using a HDTV the resolution is at a different rate and not your standard 480p. Therefore, if you use your PS2 console with them kind of cables you are going to get a blurry picture. The best kind of cable that not many are familiar with is the component AV cable. This will provide the far best picture quality you can possible obtain from your PlayStation 2 console with use with your high definition television. This will turn bad blurry graphics into nice smoother sharp graphics, especially with games such as Gran Turismo 4.
1) Before making the actual connection. Go into 'System Configuration' and change the picture output settings to 'Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr' while you still got the old scart cable in.
2) The component cable will come with 5 different plugs that are different colors. Look at the back of your TV where all the connections go. You will notice that there will be sockets that have matching colors as the different plugs on the cable. What you need to do is connect them into there matching colors. For example, the blue plug is going to go into the blue socket.
3) Connect the other end of the lead into the 'AV multiout' on the PS2 console itself.
4) Power on your PlayStation 2 console and insert a game disc of your choice you want to play. The resolution should already be adapted to your TV since you have changed it in the settings at the very beginning.
