If you have an old retro Gameboy handheld console that has not been used for a while and the batteries was still left in them, chances are they have been leaking and caused rust or corrosion on the metal battery contacts. This can cause powering on issues even with new fully charged batteries installed. You want to clean off the corrosion as soon as you spot it to prevent further damage. This can be done with regular household vinegar.
1) Remove the batteries from the console.
2) Look directly at the metal terminal contacts.
3) Pour drops of vinegar onto the metal rusted parts and use an old toothbrush to work in the solution.
4) Pat the area try with a kitchen towel and clean up any rusted particles laying around in the battery compartment.
