How To Get Subaru Boxer Engine Sound On Non Turbo WRX

The best thing about Subaru Imprezas is that unique boxer engine rumble sound. The sound is very distinctive and you can tell a Subaru is coming down the road, without looking back if the car is actually a Subaru. Cars in the same category like the Mitsubishi evolution MR edition, can't create the boxer rumble engine sound from the exhaust. This is because the engine used in the evos is the inline 4 and not the flat designed engine used in the WRXs. If you have a Subaru Impreza WRX non turbo, you can still get that boxer sound with a few modifications and make it sound just like an STI. All without the expenses of high insurance, fuel and maintenance costs with an STI model.

1) Use unequal headers. The current stock equal headers will not provide your car with that burble sound. This is because the firing order is evenly spaced out, resulting in the exhaust pulses to be not bouncing backwards and forwards. This making your car sound just like a Evo or a Honda Civic Vtec. With using aftermarket unequal length headers on your WRX, it will make the firing order work in a pulsing motion on both sides of the cylinders. This creating an boxer rumble sound to be heard, just like an STI.

2) Aftermarket Exhaust System. The stock exhaust system from the factory on most WRXs is made to sound really quiet. You won't hear any rumble at all when idling in traffic, you will only hear some action when you give it some beans. With an aftermarket exhaust, they are designed to provide a louder rumble and help improve on performance gains. I would recommend you either the 'Afterburner Vortex' or 'Blitz Nur Spec' if you want it to sound loud and deep from miles.
